How to Leave a Voicemail Message

This is a quick tip, as brief and to-the-point as the messages I wish everyone would leave.
This is how to leave a message on someone’s voicemail or answering machine:
1) Say who you are right away.
2) (Optional) And say who you’re with or where you met, if you think they might not remember
3) Leave your phone number in the beginning of the message so that if they miss part of it at the end they won’t have to listen to the whole message again.
4) Tell them why you are calling, or ask your question if you have one. Give enough information that they will be able to answer in a voicemail to you in case you’re not there when they call back, thus eradicating the need to even talk on the phone.
5) Leave your phone number again at the end.
6) (Optional) Give your email address if it’s easy to remember, like I try to steer people to send me email instead because it usually saves everybody time and I get back to them faster.
